The All-New Mitsubishi Destinator Is Coming to South Africa in 2026

March 12, 2026

Mitsubishi Motors is preparing to introduce an exciting new addition to its SUV range with the arrival of the all-new Mitsubishi Destinator, expected to launch in South Africa during the first half of 2026.

Designed with modern families and adventure-focused drivers in mind, the Destinator combines SUV styling with the practicality of a seven-seater interior, offering the space, technology and versatility needed for everyday driving and longer journeys.

Unveiled globally in 2025, the Mitsubishi Destinator has been developed specifically for emerging markets including Asia, Latin America, the Middle East and Africa. The model will be produced at Mitsubishi’s manufacturing facility in Indonesia, which also builds models such as the Outlander Sport and Xpander.

A Practical Seven-Seater SUV

The Mitsubishi Destinator blends the practicality of an MPV with the confident design of a modern SUV.

Inside, the vehicle offers seating for seven passengers across three rows, giving families the flexibility they need for daily commuting, school runs or road trips.

The second and third rows are designed to be easily configurable. The second row features a 40:20:40 split configuration, while the third row folds in a 50:50 split, allowing the cabin to be adjusted depending on passenger and luggage requirements.

To further enhance everyday usability, the Destinator includes 25 cleverly designed storage compartments, making it easier to keep the cabin organised during family travel.

Turbocharged Performance

Under the bonnet, the Mitsubishi Destinator is powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine producing 120 kW of power and 250 Nm of torque.

Power is delivered to the front wheels through a continuously variable transmission (CVT) that offers smooth and efficient driving in both urban traffic and highway conditions.

Drivers can also select from five driving modes, allowing the vehicle to adapt to different road conditions while balancing performance and efficiency.

Mitsubishi’s Active Yaw Control system helps enhance stability and handling by managing power distribution and improving traction across varying road surfaces and weather conditions.

Technology and Comfort

Inside the cabin, the Mitsubishi Destinator introduces a range of modern technology features designed to enhance comfort and connectivity.

The interior features a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen paired with an 8-inch digital instrument cluster, creating a clean and intuitive digital cockpit for the driver.

Additional highlights include a panoramic sunroof, 65-colour ambient lighting, and a premium Yamaha sound system, creating a more refined experience for both drivers and passengers.

Advanced Safety

Safety remains a key focus for Mitsubishi vehicles, and the Destinator comes equipped with the latest Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) along with six airbags to help protect occupants.

Thanks to its strong safety credentials, the Destinator has already achieved a five-star rating in the 2025 ASEAN NCAP safety assessment, one of the leading vehicle safety evaluation programmes in the region.

Global Recognition

Since its global unveiling in 2025, the Mitsubishi Destinator has received several international awards recognising its design and innovation.

These include the Japanese Good Design Award, a Gold Award for Best Industrial Product Design at the VMARK Vietnam Design Awards, and Best of the Best at Indonesia’s 2025 FORWOT Car of the Year awards.

These recognitions highlight the model’s modern styling and its appeal in the competitive compact SUV segment.

Exclusive Pre-Launch Campaign

Ahead of the official South African launch, Mitsubishi Motors will introduce an exclusive pre-launch campaign starting in March 2026.

The first 20 customers to secure the all-new Mitsubishi Destinator will be able to purchase the vehicle at a special launch price and unlock a mystery reward designed to celebrate the beginning of their ownership journey.

More details regarding local specifications, model variants and pricing for South Africa will be announced closer to the official launch date.

A New Addition to the Mitsubishi SUV Range

The arrival of the Mitsubishi Destinator will expand the brand’s SUV offering in South Africa with a versatile model designed for families who need space, comfort and modern technology.

Combining seven-seat practicality, turbocharged performance, advanced safety systems and modern design, the Destinator is set to become an exciting new option for drivers looking for a capable and well-equipped SUV.
